BailBondPolicy.com is a project to examine the effects of pretrial release in our justice system. In doing so we hope to provide a vibrant community to help friends and family cope with their loved ones in jail. As our list of information on jails, pretrial release, and inmate rights in county jails grows so to does the community. We gather our information directly from jails, former inmates, and govenment agencies such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the US Census Bureau.
Bail Bonds or otherwise known as "surety bonds" are a contract between the individual, criminal justice system and surety companies which creates an incentive for a defendant to appear in court. When you post a bail it also creates an incentive for the agent to ensure the defendant appears in court. 24 hour bail bonds are available nationwide in most cases. Bail should only be used as an alternative to free options such as pretrial release. In situations where pretrial release is not an option the inmate should seek out cheap bail bonds.
