About Macomb County Jail
After the jails construction in 1954 the facility underwent renovations in 1968, 1978, 1987, and again in 1999. The 1999 addition added in a separate building used soley for inmate work release (read below). The jail can house 1,438 inmates and is overseen by Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. Work and Education Release
Due to budget cuts all release programs have been temporarily suspended. Inmates can work offsite for up to 12 hours a day / 6 days a week. The work release program allows prisoners to be productive members of society while reducing the detention centers costs. The jail also offers educational release and the option to seek employment (on the outside) while in the jail.
