Clinton County Jail is located in Saint Johns, Michigan. It is overseen by the Sheriff's Office, which is headed by Sheriff Kangas. Until 1990, the county had a small jail that could house 42 inmates. Due to continuous overcrowding issues, in 1990, the county commissioned a bigger jail. In 1991, the new Jail with a 178-inmate capacity was built. In 2004, the jail was once again renovated to increase inmate capacity to 220, and to create a bigger kitchen area. The county jail mainly houses County residents but also has federal, state, and other county inmates.
The Clinton County Jail provides a variety of Inmate Programs such as a Religions Program, Substance Abuse Program, Anger Management Program, Recreation, and Parenting classes. It offers Mental Health Services through Community Mental Health. It also has a Work Release Program. The purpose of these programs is to prevent repeat offenses and motivate the inmates to become productive citizens on release.
The inmates can stay in contact with loved ones by mail, telephone calls, and personal visits. There is an Inmate Phone System, wherein, inmates can collect telephone calls.
