The Branch county jail of Coldwater, Michigan was built in the year 1875 after the older wooden jail, which was built in the year 1847 was burned down. With a capacity of 139, this jail is bigger than most of the other jails in the state. The average daily population of the jail is 135.The county jail and the Sheriff's office is housed in the same building. The mission of the jail is to improve the ability of the inmates to live lawfully and productively in the community. Currently, Sheriff C. John Pollack is the head of the jail.
The jail has a visitation facility on Saturdays, with an inmate allowed a maximum of three visitors per week. The visitors are required to carry photo ID proofs. An inmate's mom and dad are considered as a single visitor if both of them visit together and at the same time.
Provisions can be ordered on Monday mornings with delivery being made by Tuesday afternoon. Cash or money order can be dropped-off during the usual business timings, or money orders payable to the She riff's department can be mailed. Eyeglasses can be taken to the inmate. Books and magazines can be mailed to the inmate either from family or from a publisher. These books may become the prison's property when he or she is released. No Polaroid photographs are allowed, and photos larger than 5"X7" are not permitted to be carried inside the facility.
