Bay County Jail
As soon as the Bay County was recognized by the Supreme Court, a temporary jail was erected. However, after it was burned down in the year 1868, a new two-storied jail, the Bay County jail, was built with cells of boiler iron, surrounded by corridors to prevent prisoners from getting free access to the outer walls of the jail. The second floor houses the cells of female prisoners. John Miller is the current head of this jail.
The visitation policy here is guided by the last names of prisoners. The first letter of the last name determines the day on which the inmate is allowed visitation. Each visit is of approximately 30 minutes and is non-contact. Visitors are supposed to carry proper identification proofs and should conduct themselves properly.
Money for prisoners can be mailed in the form of money order by addressing a letter in his/her name. Checks and money orders may be delivered to the Record's Division. Prisoners may use the money in their accounts at the commissary, and also for paying bills for medical treatment.
Only a maximum of three white tee shirts, three white briefs, and three pairs of white socks are accepted for prisoners. Prisoners are allowed to make phone calls from morning until the lock down each day, however, no incoming calls are allowed. Books, newspapers, and magazines are permitted only if the books are soft-covered.
