Alcona County Jail
Alcona County Jail is located in Harrisville, Michigan. Sheriff Douglas Atchison heads the jail. In Alcona County Jail, the inmates need to wake up by 6 a.m. once the authorities sound the morning wakeup alarm. This is followed by a roll call and breakfast. The inmates are then expected to work in laundry, kitchen or some other facility as guided by their work program. They are allowed to go to school if they wish and qualify. If a treatment program is mandated to any of the inmates, they are expected to attend it. There is a second roll call after lunch and then again, the inmates are supposed to go back to their assigned work. The evenings are usually spent in a common room.
The inmates are expected to take a shower after dinner and then the authorities switch off the lights for everyone to go to sleep. It must be noted that enough light is left on so that inmates can engage in reading or writing during this time.
When an inmate is in the jail, friends and family are allowed to make money deposits in the inmate's account, which can be used to make purchases through the commissary. Every inmate also earns his or her own money in the prison in exchange for work that is done daily. This money can also be spent by them.
