About Metro Detention Facility
The Metro Detention Facility is the downtown holding facility for El Paso County in Colorado. The jail is located in Colorado Springs, adjacent to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and Courthouse. The original housing section was built in the fall of 1973. This is a temporary detention center for inmates that are waiting for arraignment, trial or transfer to the state prison, as well as work release inmates. The facility is directly supervised by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Detention Bureau, lead by the Bureau Chief Paula Presley. The jail currently operates at a daily average of 90 to 100 percent capacity.
