The Douglas County Jail is a relatively new facility that first opened in 1998. This state of the art detention facility was initially designed with 192 cells, capable of holding 284 inmates. The size of the jail has increased dramatically over the years, with an average of 104 daily inmates in 1998 to the current average of 349 inmates per day. Douglas County Jail is operated by a staff of 150 full time employees made up of sheriff's deputies and civilian workers. The jail is managed by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, which is committed to providing a safe, secure and humane environment for the incarceration of inmates.
