About Boulder County Jail
The Boulder County Jail was opened in 1988 in Boulder Colorado. The facility is currently under the management of Sheriff Joe Pelle, and a staff made up of four commanders, twelve sergeants, and over a hundred civilian medical and health workers. This jail houses inmates from every security level from minimum to maximum security. When the jail was opened in the 80's it had the capacity for 287 bunks. Recently it has been remodeled to accommodate a bed capacity of 536. The jail currently has an inmate population of 736, which is common for this crowded prison. This growth was expected so Boulder County Jail was designed to be expandable. Since it's opening in1988 the jail capacity has been increased 6 times.
