About Arapahoe County Jail
The Arapahoe County Jail is located just outside of Denver in the town of Englewood, Colorado. The detention facility first opened its doors in 1987 and is overseen by the sheriff of Arapahoe County, Sheriff J. Grayson Robinson. The Arapahoe County jail is a 299,241 square foot facility with a maximum capacity of 1,192 inmates. As of 2009 the jail had an average inmate population of 1,227 inmates. Operating at maximum capacity requires a lot of staff and the jail employs over 250 deputy sheriffs, plus an additional 145 civilian personnel. In 2002 the county voted to have the name changed from the Arapahoe County Jail to the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility, to honor the legacy of the former sheriff.
