About the San Mateo County Jail

The San Mateo County Jail is the main detention facility for San Mateo County, California. The County Jail is made up of two facilities, the Maguire Correctional Facility for male inmates and the Maple Street Complex for female inmates. The Maguire Correctional Facility is known as the Main Jail, and it primarily provides incarceration and rehabilitative services for pretrial and sentenced inmates. The county jail provides services to insure that inmates appear in court, complete their sentence in a secure and human environment, and have access to programs and opportunities to improve their lives before and after incarceration. The county jail has the capacity to hold 1,003 inmates and often operates at max capacity. Many expansions are planned in the future to deal with the problem of overcrowding.
